Man (30) shot in the ankles in "paramilitary style" shooting

The incident occurred in Ballymagroarty in the west of Derry at about 3.35am this morning.

POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland are investigating after a man was shot in the ankles in Derry in the early hours of this morning.

The incident occurred in Ballymagroarty in the west of Derry at about 3.35am.

The man – aged 30 – was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries.

Police said that they were treating the incident as a “paramilitary style” shooting and have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

The shooting is the latest in a series of incidents in Northern Ireland, including one where a delivery driver in his 50s was shot dead as he sat in a car in west Belfast last Monday.

Inspector Gregory Smith appealed for anyone with information around the incident to contact Police at Strand Road.

People in Northern Ireland can call the non-emergency number 101, or they can call the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
